Brandon Jr

The winners of my portfolio building newborn shoot are Amy & Brandon Burris! Below is their precious new baby boy. Brandon Jr was remarkably good for this shoot. I did lots of research and discovered what made babies comfortable and easier to work with during photography sessions. Let me tell you, a white noise machine is a gift from God himself! It put little Brandon Jr straight ot sleep- to my and his mom’s excitement!:)White noise mimics the noises the babies hear when inside their mommies, helping to lull them into a comfortable state. I’m very proud of these images considering it’s my first full length newborn session.
I cannot wait to photograph more babies, so bring em on! 😉

I love the photos where Brandon rests in more natural elements. I’m not opposed to the blue, but it is a little glaring. Maybe a softer blue to go along with the notion of newborn innocence? The crown didn’t add anything to the shoot. What types of headgear, if you use it, would make sense for a boy? A small baseball cap? A mini football helmet? As far as those go, they could possibly be used as “cradles” depending on baby’s size, especially a full football helmet. Also, what types of things are important to the parents? Special mememtos, clothing, jewelry, that you could incorporate so that when they look at the photos they smile double. Just suggestions…

Thank you for the feedback Rebecca! The natural element shots are by far my favorites as well. This was a portfolio building session, not one that revolved around the client. I used the crown because I made it and wanted to photograph it, tried to make it tiny so it could be a little prince like crown. The parents foster animals and adored their dogs. Initially, we were going to pose a dog or two with the baby, but the dogs hadn’t been introduced to the infant yet and I did not want to risk the baby’s safety for a few precious shots… although they would have been so adorable! I agree with the mementos and themes pertaining to the parents/family in the future. Thank you so much for being such a fan! :)
